Key Verses: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” -Psalm 133:1

If you are following the Faith and Food blog Instagram and Facebook accounts, you may recount a post I had made back in August titled “Who You Surround Yourself With Matters Much More than you Realize…”

Today, that matters now more than ever.

We live in a society that is more individualistic than it ever has been. All around us, we see less and less people getting married, community groups are declining in attendance, and the mentality of “God only helps those who help themselves” rings throughout people’s minds.

We’ve convinced ourselves that we were meant to isolate ourselves in this life, and especially when we go through difficult times.

We were never meant to though.

When God created Eve for Adam, the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him” (Genesis 2:18).

From the very beginning of creation, God said that it was not good for man to be alone. Meaning, we were designed to live amongst one another and to have community with each other. We carry these burdens with our brothers and sisters, and we are able to do so without feeling like a burden ourselves.

Yes, I know this verse was about marriage, but the point still stands.

And it’s not just the importance of having people, but the importance of having Godly people around you. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says “Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”” There are going to be people that come into your life (or have already come into your life) that are going to steer you away from the Christian faith, whether it’s intentional or not, subtle or boisterous. When you are in good settings, be mindful of the people you’re in the room with, and think about you closest inner circle: are they bringing you closer to Christ? If not, it may be time to reevaluate who you keep close to you.

I encourage you: find that community. Don’t be afraid to find a group at church or go up to the person reading their Bible in a coffee shop. All of us yearning for community, we just have to look in all the right places.

Comment below your thoughts on having a faithful community!
