It’s officially Fall time. The air is getting crisp, the leaves are starting to change colors, and the smell of cinnamon and spice is constantly filling the air.
No matter where you are, there is one thing that remains a constant in the Fall time: apple cider donuts.
Whether you like them glazed or with sugar, there is no denying that these popular treats are irresistible. The best part is: no matter where you go, every donut is different.

1. Edward’s Apple Orchard (Poplar Grove, IL)
This family-owned orchard located in Poplar Grove, IL is a great place in the Fall to pick some apples, find some ripe pumpkins, listen to live music and enjoy tons of delicious local foods, including jams, jellies, salsas, butters, and more (personally, they have my favorite apple cider donuts. The softness of it perfectly melts in your mouth and the sugar on there elevates the flavor immensely).
2. Tanner’s Orchard (Speer, IL)
If you live in Central Illinois, you have probably heard of Tanner’s. Back in college, this was a go-to place for people of all ages, where guests can enjoy a corn maze, live animals (where you can feed them too), and some of the finest apple cider donuts you will find in the state.
3. Goebbert’s Farm (South Barrington & Pingree Grove, IL)
With locations in Pingree Grove and South Barrington, this family-owned and operated farm “takes pride in sharing the joy of the harvest, the beauty of the land, and the values that have guided them for generations—honesty, hospitality, and a deep respect for agriculture.”
4. Kuipers Family Farm (Maple Park, IL)
This premium Fall destination in Illinois features thousands of apple trees for guests to pick from and enjoy some of the finest apples in Illinois. With attractions available for all ages, this is a place that you have to include in your Fall plans this year!
5. Country Donuts (Elgin & Crystal Lake, IL)
Although this isn’t a farm or orchard like the others are, this 24 hour donut shop with locations in Elgin & Crystal Lake makes some of the best donuts in the area, hands down. They offer both glazed and sugar donuts for apple cider and sell them year-round (although they truly hit the best in the Fall time).
