Overview:
Located along route 20 in Elgin, this new family-owned bagel restaurant has set out to “share their passion for bagels through local farmers markets and neighborhood pop-ups in Elgin, connecting with their community and growing a dedicated following.”
Their sense of wonder of exploring rocky shores and during the summer and spending time by the sand and warm waters that inspired them to bring this same mindset to Mill Creek Bagel Company.
With only being open for 6 months, they’ve already received a lot of support from the local community.
Let’s take a deep dive into my first experience going!

My Experience:
On a Sunday afternoon, my wife and I were on our way to a pumpkin patch when we had wanted to stop for a coffee and a quick bite to eat. We had heard from a friend about this place and with it being close to where we live (and us on the hunt for our go-to coffee place in the area), we figured we would try it.
When we walked in, we noticed the inside looked very clean. The decor and design of the restaurant had a feel that was both modern, while also having a bit of a rustic feel to it. The display of merchandise while having the white look to it really aided in this notion.
Mill Creek bakes all of their goods fresh each morning, and they had so many options for us to try and we had our eyes set on so many different things. We first decided on our drinks, where my wife ordered an Iced Vanilla Matcha and I ordered a Maple Brown Sugar Iced Latte (which was part of their seasonal menu). For our food, they had on display a few different options of baked goods ranging from scones to muffins, and then they of course had their big wall of bagels behind the counter with so many different options of bagels.
We ended up ordering the blueberry scone and what is known as their “Cali Turkey” sandwich, which had “Sliced turkey, creamy avocado, and savory Swiss cheese layered with crisp lettuce and ripe tomato on your choice of bagel, finished with a smooth spread of mayonnaise”. We ordered this on an asiago bagel.

This sandwich on paper is one that isn’t out of the ordinary, it’s a simple sandwich with classic ingredients, but when done correctly, can be a top tier sandwich. This was one of those for me. The ratio of all of the foods mixed with the rich flavor of the Asiago cheese was phenomenal.
The coffee itself was also very good. I like when my coffee is both sweet and refreshing and this had both of those. The matcha also was very fresh and you can tell it was made with a lot of care.

Not only though was the food a hit, but the service was unforgettable. I had gone to the bathroom, but my wife had told me that while I was in there, one of the owners had apologized for the table being dirty and started cleaning it off. This was about 10 minutes before they close, and the fact they put this much care there so close to them closing is unheard of.
And on TOP of all that, because they bake everything fresh each morning, they had to get rid of the final pastries, which featured a sea salt chocolate muffin and a lemon cookie. They gave it to us FOR FREE! It was so kind, and they treated us with such great hospitality the entire time.
I’m so happy to say that this will be our go-to place, and we will make many stops there. I highly recommend coming here and supporting their establishment.
Let me know what you’re most excited to try!
